Synergy Group is progressing fast with organization of "Shamkir Chess 2015"

In April, 2015, an international tournament "Shamkir Chess 2015" in honour of Azerbaijani grandmaster Vugar Gashimov, the European champion and winner of various international tournaments, who recently passed away, will be held with support and sponsorship of Synergy Group.

The names of prominent chess masters to take part in this prestigious tournament have already been approved. For the first time three world champions - the current world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2863), former world champion Viswanathan Anand (India, 2791), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia, 2783) will compete in the tournament in Azerbaijan, as well as 2nd in FIDE ratings Fabiano Caruana (Italy, 2802), Anish Giri (Netherlands, 2790), Wesley So (USA, 2788), Azerbaijani European champions Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (13 in FIDE ratings, 2756), Teimour Radjabov (20th, 2738) and the last winner of Azerbaijan Championship Rauf Mamedov (92th, 2658) will take part in the tournament.

The tournament's prize fund is 100,000 Eur.

The main purpose of the tournament to be held with organization and sponsorship of one of the largest local investment companies in non-oil sector – Synergy Group, is to honor the memory of Vugar Gashimov and support the development of chess in Azerbaijan.

Vladimir Petrov (1909-1943)

The 4th annual Vladmir Petrov Memorial will be held on March 6-7, 2015 in Jurmala, Latvia.

The aim of the tournament is to pay tribute to one of the brightest representatives of Latvian Chess ever who tragically died in Soviet camps during the Second World War. The tournament will be supported by Vladimir Petrov's family, among others.

The festival will feature some of the worlds top players as well as leading Latvian grandmasters and chess lovers from all around the world.

KRYSTYNA HOŁUJ-RADZIKOWSKA

Krytyna_RadzikowskaKrystyna Hołuj-Radzikowska (5 February 1931, Lwów – 29 November 2006) was a Polish chess Woman Grandmaster (WGM). She was nine times Polish Champion (1951, 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1959, 1966, and 1969).

Krystyna tied for 15–16th at the Moscow 1955 Candidates Tournament which was won by Olga Rubtsova. She tied for 7–8th at the Ohrid 1971 Candidates Tournament won by Nana Alexandria.

She played for Poland five times in the Women’s Chess Olympiads:

in 1957, at 1st board in the 1st WChOlympiad in Emmen (+9 −2 =0);
in 1963, at 2nd board in the 2nd WChOlympiad in Split (+2 −4 =2);
in 1966, at 1st board in the 3rd WChOlympiad in Oberhausen (+3 −6 =2);
in 1969, at 1st board in the 4th WChOlympiad in Lublin (+3 −3 =4);
in 1972, at 1st board in the 5th WChOlympiad in Skopje (+5 −1 =3).

Krystyna won two individual medals: gold (Emmen 1957) and bronze (Skopje 1972). She was awarded the Woman International Master (WIM) title in 1955 and the WGM title in 1984.

The International TASHIR Chess Tournament in memory of Tigran Petrosian took place between November 3 and 11 at Novotel Moscow City. The tournament is dedicated the 9th World Chess Champion, who would have celebrated his 85 birthday this year.

The Tashir Group of Companies and the Russian Chess Federation are the organisers of the International TASHIR Chess Tournament in memory of Tigran Petrosian, which is to take place between November 3 and 11 at Novotel Moscow City. The tournament is held in memory of the 9th World Chess Champion, who would have celebrated his 85 birthday this year.

Tigran Petrosian

Tigran Petrosian (born June 17, 1929, Tbilisi - died August 13, 1984) played for the Soviet Union and is the 9th World Chess Champion from 1963 until 1969. Petrosian is an international chess master (1952), honoured master of sports of the USSR (1960), the four-time champion of the USSR (1959, 1961, 1969, 1975), the three-time champion of Moscow.

Doctor of Philosophy, chess theorist and journalist, editor of the Chess Moscow monthly magazine (1963-1966), founder and chief editor of the “64” monthly magazine (1968-1977), the nine-time winner of the World Chess Olympics as a member of Team USSR. Nicknamed Iron Tigran for his unsurpassed skills in defence.

David Bronstein Memorial 2014 (11-19 February 2014) is dedicated to the 90th anniversary from the birth of David Bronstein.

David Bronstein

David Ionovich Bronstein (February 19, 1924 - December 5, 2006) was a Ukraine-born Soviet chess grandmaster, one of the world's strongest players from the 1940s until the 1970s. Bronstein was described as a creative genius and master of tactics. He was also a renowned chess writer.

Bronstein won many prizes at tournaments, among which the Soviet Chess Championships of 1948 (jointly with Alexander Kotov) and 1949 (jointly with Smyslov); second place at the Soviet Championships of 1957 and 1964-65; he was a six-time winner of the Moscow Championships, and represented the USSR at the Olympiads of 1952, 1954, 1956 and 1958; he won four Olympiad team gold medals. He also won prizes at Hastings 1953-54, Belgrade 1954, Gotha 1957, Moscow 1959, Szombathely 1966, East Berlin 1968, Dnepropetrovsk 1970, Sarajevo 1971, Sandomierz 1976, Iwonicz Zdrój 1976, Budapest 1977, and Jūrmala 1978.

He narrowly missed becoming World Chess Champion in 1951, and is considered among the greatest post-war players not to have won the World Championship (like Paul Keres, Viktor Korchnoi and Akiba Rubinstein). He drew the 1951 challenge match for the title of World Champion by a score of 12-12 with Mikhail Botvinnik, the reigning champion. Each player won five games, while the remaining 14 games were drawn, and under FIDE rules, the title remained with the holder. There have been rumours that Bronstein allowed Botvinnik to win either due to pressure from the Soviet authorities or for personal reasons, but these allegations have never been openly confirmed.

David Bronstein wrote many chess books and articles on his pioneering theoretical and practical work, as well as on chess history, most notably the book "Zurich International Chess Tournament 1953" (English translation 1979) dedicated to the legendary Candidates Tournament in Zurich (won by Vasily Smyslov, followed by David Bronstein, Paul Keres and Samuel Reshevsky) which was the last qualification step for the 1954 world championship match against Mikhail Botvinnik.

David Bronstein died on December 5, 2006, aged 82, in Minsk, Belarus.

David Bronstein Memorial is organised by the Belarusian Chess Federation and is commemorating the 90th anniversary from the birth of the famous Grandmaster.

It will be held 11-19 February 2014 as a 9-round Swiss tournament. Time control: 90 mins + 30 sec increment for each move (starting with the first move).

Tomorrow starts the classic tournament of Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial 2014

Tomorrow starts the classic tournament of the Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial - Stage of Russian Chess Cup 2014. It is organised by the Russian Chess Federation, the Rostov Chess Federation and the city of Taganrog, Russia, 14-27 January 2014. It includes a rapid event (15-16th January) followed by a classic tournament (18-26th January 2014).

The tournament marks 76 years from the birth of the famous Russian arbiter Vladimir Dvorkovich who died in 2005. Vladimir Dvorkovich was an International Arbiter, member of FIDE Titles and Ratings Committee, Rules and Regulations Committee and CHIPS. He made an immense contribution to the Russian Chess as well as to the chess all over the World.
