FIDE Online Olympiad 2020

    The FIDE Online Olympiad is a major online chess event for national teams, held between July 25 and August 30 on the Chess.com server. With 163 teams and over 1,500 participants from all over the world, the tournament will be a truly global team event destined to captivate chess fans throughout the summer.
    Between July 25 and August 23, teams play on Chess.com in separate divisions, in a competition that leads up to a playoff phase held August 27-30.
    The time control for all matches is 15 minutes for the game and five seconds increment per move, starting from move one. Each pool is played within three days, three rounds per day.
    The line-up of teams (available here) has Russia as the top seed, followed by China, USA, and Armenia. A total of 223 grandmasters have signed up among over 1,000 titled players in total. Some of the biggest names participating include GMs Ding Liren, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Grischuk, Levon Aronian, Viswanathan Anand, Anish Giri, and Wesley So.

Icelandic Chess Championship 2020

The national chess championship of Iceland 2020 is held between 22nd and 31st August 2020 in Garðabær, Island. The tournament is a collaboration between the Icelandic Chess Association and Taflfélag Garðabær. The event was originally scheduled to start on March 28 but was postponed due to Covid-19.
Some of the strongest chess players in the country take part - Margeir Pétursson, Hjörvar Steinn Grétarsson, Throstur Thorhallsson, Helgi Áss Grétarsson, Gudmundur Kjartansson, Björn Thorfinnsson, Dagur Ragnarsson, Vignir Vatnar Stefánsson, Gauti Páll Jónsson

Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour Kiva Finals 2020

The Finals of the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour 2020 is part of an online series of super-tournaments, featuring the world chess champion Magnus Carlsen and some of the world’s best players. The grand final takes place from 9-20 August on chess24. It features the winners in the series - Magnus Carlsen, Liren Ding, Daniil Dubov and Hikaru Nakamura. The organisers cooperate with Kiva - an international nonprofit with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. 

The first phase is the Semi-finals which are the best of 5 series of matches. They are held between 9th  and 13th August 2020. The competitors play 5 matches (one per day). The one who wins 3 matches is the winner of the stage. Each match consists of four 15'+10" rapid games. In case the score after the 4 rapid games is 2-2 then two 5+3 blitz games and then, if needed, an Armageddon game shall be played. In Armageddon White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black 

The second phase is the Finals, held between August 14th - 20th, which are the best-of-7 series. The player who wins 4 matches is the winner of the Tour.
