The 2018 Nutcracker tournament is held between 17th and 22nd December in the Botvinnik Central Chess Club in Moscow.
The traditional Christmas Nutcracker tournament consists of two Scheveningen matches: Kings vs. Princes and Queens vs. Mastres like Gelfand, Leko, Short and Najer take on Paravyan, Sarana, Esipenko and Lomasov.
Each player first plays a classical game against each member of the opposing team. They then play two rapid games against each opposing player. The classical games are worth double - 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
