The International Chess Week in Plovdiv Was a Chess Furor

The International Week of Chess, organized by Chessbomb - Plovdiv, the chess portal  ChessBomb.com and with the support of Plovdiv Municipality under the project Plovdiv for young people took place in the "St. Petersburg" Park Hotel in Plovdiv  from 3rd till 9th of July 2017.

The competition in the first A tournament of the event ended on July 7, 2017. The winner with 6 points from 7 games became Stoyan Stoyanov from CK Asenovets. In the last round, he came over Ivan Kociev (ChessBomb - Plovdiv). Victor Boev (ChessBomb - Plovdiv) became second with 5.5 points after a draw with Ivan Karadjov (CK Plovdiv), who took the third place. The first 6 games from each game round were played live on both the big screen in the hall and the ChessBomb.com chess portal. Before and after the tournament games, the young chess players had the unique opportunity to attend to the chess lectures of Dr. Radislav Atanasov, head of Chessmate department at the National Sports Academy Vassil Levski in Sofia and a chair of the School Chess Committee.
After the prising of the winners of Tournament A, on July 7, 2017, at 16:00, a 20-sided playing session was held with world champion Antoaneta Stefanova. It included 20 chess players. Only three of them managed to get out with equal result - Kaloyan Todorov (Ches-Bomb-Plovdiv), Victor Boev (Ches-Bomb-Plovdiv) and Elif Mehmed (Ann Passan Sofia).

In the second half of the session for more dynamics and interest was included GM Ivan Cheparinov. The two distinguished Bulgarian grandmasters alternated in the moves one after the other. The second blitz chess tournament of the International Chess Week program, on 08 and 09 July 2017, with a prize pool of 1500 leva, was extremely controversial and prestigious. The Chess players played in 7 rounds of the Swiss system, controlling the game - 10 minutes of a contestant to the end of the game, adding 5 (five) seconds before each move played since the first. Two grandmasters and four international masters had to prove their class against the strongest young chess players in Plovdiv, Varna and Asenovgrad.

For the girls up to 14 years old, Yana Mateeva, six years old, won the cup and her first big international success. We believe that this is only the beginning of her winning series.
For the boys up to 14 years of age, Ivan Karadjov - CK Plovdiv was the first to become the best bronze medalist of blitz chess from the Bulgarian Republican Championship - the 7-year-old Elena Radulska from ChessBomb - Plovdiv.
The Republican champion of accelerated chess Atanas Kulev (ChessBomb - Plovdiv) is the winner in the 16 years group and the group up to 18 years old headed Kaloyan Todorov (ChessBomb - Plovdiv).
Varna's chess player Darina Dimitrova won the cup for girls up to 18 years old and the women's prize again won Tsveta Vassileva from CK Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
The tournament was attended by representatives of Turkey and Russia - Nechati Sintourk and Sergei Novikov - both of whom finished with 4 points from 7 games.
The prize for the best chess performer for 35 years old group with 5 out of 7 points won the Republican blitz champion Lyubomir Danov. The special prize - 100 leva, won the most successful chess player over 60 - MM Valentin Panbukchiyan from Varna.
