The 33rd GAMMA Reykjavik Open is a 9-round Swiss tournament taking place in the Harpa Concert Hall in the Icelandic capital from 6-14 March 2018. The event gathers together around 250 players, including 2700 players Pavel Eljanov and Richard Rapport. The top prize is €5,000.
The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves then 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. Draws offers are not allowed until move 30. Players can take one or two half-point byes in the first seven rounds.

The Reykjavik Open is an annual chess tournament that takes place in the capital city of Iceland. The first edition was held in 1964 and was won by Mikhail Tal. From 1964 to 1980 and in 1992 it was a round-robin tournament, currently its played with the Swiss system.
