Orsha Open 2018

The international chess tournament "Orsha-2018" is held from January 28 to February 4, 2018 in the "Ice Arena" in Orsha, the Republic of Belarus. The competition is organized in the following groups:
Group A - an open tournament with the calculation of the rating FIDE
Group B - an open tournament (for all participants without a FIDE rating score)
Group C - boys and girls born in 2004 and younger
Group D - children born in 2006 and younger
Group E - children born in 2008 and younger
Group F - children born in 2010 and younger

Regulations: Group A - Swiss system, 9 rounds. Time control for the game is 1 hour 30 minutes + 30 seconds. for each move, starting with the first. Groups B, C, D, E, F - Swiss system, 9 rounds. Time control for the game is 1 hour 15 minutes + 30 seconds. for each move.

Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2018


The 16th Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival will take place from 23rd January to 1st February 2014 in Gibraltar. The tournament is played annually at the Caleta Hotel in Gibraltar since 2003.

The 10-round, 250-player open sees this year the top 10 stars Aronian, MVL and Nakamuraq who compete for a £25,000 first prize. The women's top prize of £15,000 has again attracted many of the world's best female players.

Time control: the players receive 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes until the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one. A tie for first place will be settled in a speed play-off.

Tata Steel is one of the most prestigious chess tournaments with a long tradition since 1938. Initially, it was called Hoogovens Tournament and was held in Beverwijk (the Netherlands). Since 1968 it is held in the small town of Wijk aan Zee. After the Dutch steel and aluminium producer Koninklijke Hoogovens merged with British Steel to form the Corus Group, the tournament was given the name Corus Tournament (2000-2010), and after Corus Group was purchased by Tata Steel, since 2011 the tournament is called Tata Steel. Tata Steel traditionally attracts the top chess players from around the world.

 The 2018 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 13-28 January. For its 80th edition the tournament boasts six Top 10 players including World Champion Magnus Carlsen and former champions Vladimir Kramnik and Vishy Anand. As well as the traditional venue in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, rounds will be played in Hilversum (17 January) and in Groningen (24 January).

The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If two or more players tie for first place then a rapid or blitz playoff will be held, though the monetary prizes will be shared evenly.

The 27th Keres Memorial is an 11-round rapid open taking place in the Original Sokos Hotel Viru in Tallinn, Estonia on 13-14 January 2018. Tenth consecutive year for Saint Louis to host U.S. and U.S. Women’s Championships

 

SAINT LOUIS (January 8, 2018) — For the tenth consecutive year, the Saint Louis Chess Club will host the U.S. Chess Championship and U.S. Women’s Chess Championship. Since the 2009 Championships, the Chess Club has awarded more than two million dollars in prize money, with an additional $294,000 on the line for this year’s 24 competitors.

When: April 18-30, 2018

Who: The 2018 U.S. Chess Championship will include the defending 2017 U.S. Champion — Grandmaster Wesley So, 2017 U.S. Junior Champion — International Master Awonder Liang, and 2017 U.S. Open Champion — Grandmaster Alex Lenderman, along with one wildcard and 8 players who qualify based on their United States Chess Federation (USCF) rating. The 2018 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship will include defending 2017 U.S Women’s Champion — Woman Grandmaster Sabina Foisor, 2017 U.S. Girls’ Champion — Women’s International Master Akshita Gorti, two wildcards, and 8 players who qualify by USCF rating.

3rd Heraklion "Fischer Memorial" GM-norm 2018

The 3rd Heraklion "Fischer Memorial" GM-norm tournament is held from 2-10 January 2018 in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. The tournament is part of the Heraklion IT Grand Prix, which is held for 8th  consecutive year.
The tounament is named ater the American GM Robert James Fischer (1943 – 2008), the eleventh World Chess Champion. The 1st Heraklion GM Norm Tournament 2017 and the 2nd Heraklion GM Norm Tournament 2017  were won by GM Kapnisis Spyridon. The event is a 10-player invitational round-robin.
